Touchstone Charger for Pre

The new Touchstone is the coolest accessory for the Palm Pre. Magnets in the Touchstone dock align your Pre to the correct position for reliable charging via magnetic induction with no wires. A special material on the base of the dock (what Palm calls Micro Suction material) keeps the Touchstone fastened to tables, desks and other surfaces and prevents it from lifting up off the surface along with the phone when you try to take the Pre off the Touchstone. This whole arrangement is cool because no cables or connectors are required to attach your Palm Pre phone to the dock.

One caveat, though: even thought Palm’s advertising says that the Touchstone charges the Pre in the same amount of time as a regular wall charger, don’t believe it. Other reports we’ve been getting indicate that the Touchstone takes a bit longer. So, if you’re in a hurry for a quick recharge, use the regular AC plug-in charger.

Another cool feature: Place your Pre on the Touchstone when you’re on a call and speakerphone automatically turns on. When you take the Pre off the Touchstone, the speakerphone automatically shuts off and returns you to the phone’s , and when you take Pre off the Touchstone, the audio is routed back to the phone’s handset earpiece and mic.
